The Mitsubishi Mirage debuted its first generation as a three-door hatchback in 1978. It was an efficient option and became Mitsubishi’s entry level vehicle in the states.
The Mitsubishi Mirage ran through five generations before the introduction of the Mitsubishi Colt, a new five-door hatchback, which led to the demise of the Mirage. The Colt became the new go-to, affordable hatchback option.
In 2012, the Colt was reborn as the Mitsubishi Mirage once again. The sixth generation of the Mitsubishi Mirage made its debut at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show.
In 2014, the Mitsubishi Mirage was one of two non-hybrid cars to make it onto Forbes magazine's “12 Greenest Cars of 2014” list. The current model of the Mitsubishi MIrage gets up to 43 mpg on the highway.*
